News Recap for MeeGo Handset Day 1

One week ago today, we announced Day 1 for the MeeGo Handset project where we made the handset baseline source code available to the development community. I'm happy to say that this generated quite a bit of attention for the MeeGo project. During the week of the announcement, there were 64 original articles and more than 4000 postings about MeeGo Handset Day 1.

MeeGo Handset Project Day 1 is Here

meego-handset-day1-blog-thumb.png The MeeGo project is happy to announce "Day 1" of the MeeGo Handset user experience project. Many of you will remember this "Day 1" concept from March, when we first made the MeeGo core OS source code available and started development towards the MeeGo 1.0 release. Today, the handset baseline source code is available to the development community. This code is being actively developed as MeeGo 1.1, which is scheduled for release in October.

Opening MeeGo requirements

Today we're opening the process and tool for anyone to enter feature requests for MeeGo!

As earlier published, an open Roadmapping will be run by the Working Groups of each category and the Core Program respectively. They are then working further with the public Feature Requests to turn them to Roadmap items and eventually to implementable engineering requirements.

MeeGo Community Metrics for May

May was an exciting month for the MeeGo project and the biggest month ever for the MeeGo community! As of the end of May, we had 7993 members on MeeGo.com (up from 6397 in April), 3775 subscribers to the meego-dev mailing list (up from 3310 in April) and there were over 3600 posts across the mailing lists and forums (up from almost 2000 in April).

MeeGo and The OBS 1.8 Release

We would like to congratulate the openSUSE Build Service (OBS) team on the release of a new major milestone of the build service, including many great features that will benefit the MeeGo developer community and enhance the MeeGo build infrastructure and distribution build process. MeeGo is one of the major projects using OBS, and many of the features we requested can be found in this release.
