MeeGo Community Metrics for April

I'll admit it - I love data. It is fascinating to dig into all kinds of details about the community and look at trends over time to see where and how people participate in the community. Rather than keep all of these numbers to myself, I decided to put together a monthly report to summarize the activity in the MeeGo community. Here is the April version of this report (pdf link).

My approach to metrics is to look at several basic areas:

  1. Awareness: Finding the community and visiting it to learn more (potential community members)
  2. Membership: Taking the time to sign up and join the community (passive and active community members)
  3. Engagement: Interacting with other community members (active community members)
  4. Development: Engaging with the MeeGo project at a code level (developers)

So many people have contributed already to improve the metrics, and a huge thank you to Dave, Carsten, Anas, Mike, Margie and others who provided significant chunks of data. In typical open source fashion, I also welcome help from people who want to make these metrics even better. I have a big to do list on the metrics page if you need ideas for how to help, or just add a new item to the to do list for other contributions.

April Community Metrics

Hi Dawn,

Great to see a project taking the time to show what is going on. Too often Open Source projects for all their enthusiasm and community-mindedness seem quite opaque, especially with the "big" picture.

Some thoughts for future metrics:

1. Activity per nation/continent/timezone
2. Locations of last ten new members
3. Repository hits per nation/continent/timezone

Maybe there is more non-European activity than we would expect or perhaps not, might be handy to know if the concept of a localised Meego group (Meetup/LUG etc) gets considered.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Regards, bdp.
